- 1996 – Honda debuts the CR-V in Japan making it Honda’s first in-house designed SUV! The Cr-V is displayed, for the first time in the US, at the Chicago Auto Show. The first generation CR-V LX, is equipped with a Real Time 4WD system, and is powered by a 2.0 L straight-4 B20B engine.
- 1999 – The Honda CR-V receives a facelift and also more engine power. The 2.0 L straight-4 B20B is changed to 2.0 L B20Z engine producing 146 hp at 4,500 rpm of torque. The automatic transmissions models are installed with an overdrive cancel button which allow the driver to lock the transmission in the first 3 gears to facilitate more power during steep climbs. The newly re-styled CR-V gets new front bumper and a smaller plastic radio antenna on the rear of the roof.
- 2000 – Honda launches a Special Edition model in the North American Markets! The CR-V SE comes equipped with fresher interior and exteriors including leather upholstery, body colored bumpers, CD/cassette audio system and chrome grille.
- 2001 – The Honda CR-V becomes the top selling car in its class, outselling its competitors!
- 2002 – The second generation Honda CR-V makes its entrance! A fully re-designed vehicle, it is powered by the K24A1 engine, producing more power but maintaining its fuel efficiency thanks to the i-VTEC system!
- 2003 – The Honda CR-V is voted as the ‘Best Small SUV’ by Car and Driver magazine for 2002 and 2003!
- 2005 – The Honda CR-V gets a mid-generational upgrade. It is now equipped with an improved four-wheel drive system, a five-speed automatic transmission, 16” wheels, changed grille, steering wheel mounted audio controls, revised rear seat head rests, and outside temperature monitors. The US models, in conforming to the local safety standards, are equipped with ABS, traction control, Vehicle stability assist and front seat-mounted side airbags, and side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors for all outboard occupants.
- 2005 – Honda displays the CR-V Limited Edition at the Australian International Motor Show. The CR-V SE trim with more luxurious interiors is included in the CR-V model list.
- 2007 – Honda introduces the third generation CR-V! The SUV is powered by Honda’s latest K-Series 2.4 L 4-cylinder engine! The re-styled CR-V displays new features such as a rear liftgate, an integration Navigation option (for the EX-L model), 6-disc CD changer, and a PC card slot.
